Sudbury Gravestone Project needs vols
Posted on 05/01/2026
Have you ever walked through an old cemetery and wondered about the people buried there? Some of Sudbury's gravestones date back to the 1700s.  Many are broken, fading, or at risk of being lost forever.  The Sudbury Historical Commission is building a digital archive to document, photograph, and track the condition of every gravestone in town and we need your help.

As a volunteer, you'll:
* Enter and verify historical records about real people from Sudbury's past
* Help preserve local history that connects directly to your own community
* Learn to use real tools — a web app, database records, and research workflows used by historians and preservationists
* Build your resume with meaningful community service hours
No experience needed — just attention to detail and a curiosity about history. You'll be trained and supported every step of the way.

This project counts toward community service hours and is a great fit for students interested in history, genealogy, technology, or local government.  Ready to make your mark on Sudbury's past? Reach out to get involved!
