Sudbury Garden Club Historical Document Project:
The Sudbury Garden Club (SGC) boasts a rich history of fostering a love for gardening and community engagement. Established in 1931, the SGC has dedicated nearly a century to promoting gardening, environmental conservation, and civic beauty. The Club’s mission is to inspire and cultivate a deeper appreciation for gardening while focusing on the protection of birds, native plants, and natural resources. We are committed to enhancing our local community through thoughtful civic planting projects and the preservation of the beauty of our shared spaces. Our efforts aim to enrich both the natural environment and the community spirit, making Sudbury a greener and more beautiful place for all to enjoy.

We are excited to offer an engaging community service project to the students of LSRHS who have a passion for uncovering and documenting history! While electronic documentation wasn't available back in 1931, the SGC has preserved a rich collection of historical records that tell the story of the Club's mission, growth, and community involvement through the years.

The SGC will provide a selection of documents dating back to the early 1930s, which will need to be sorted and organized by year. Your task will be to scan, upload, and compile these documents into a digital archive. Additionally, you'll collaborate with the SGC historian and other key Club members to craft a narrative that captures the essence of the Club's history.

As Sudbury prepares for the 250th anniversary of the commencement of the American Revolution, the Town will showcase these artifacts and historical information about the SGC in various public venues. This project will be an opportunity for the community to learn about the Club's legacy, and for students to contribute to preserving and sharing an important part of Sudbury's history.

If you're interested in earning valuable community service hours while learning about Sudbury's oldest garden club, we invite you to get involved! Reach out to Meredith Cabarrus at [email protected] for more details and to sign up for this exciting opportunity. We look forward to working with you and uncovering the rich history of the Sudbury Garden Club together!
