Overview for students of scheduling process March 2023

Timeline:
- March 3 - March 23 English, History, Math, Science and World Language teachers discuss course recommendations with students and enter recommendations in Aspen.
- As of March 10 - Students may view course recommendations and requests in Aspen Student Portal.
- As of March 10 - Parents/guardians may view course recommendations and requests in Aspen Family Portal.
- March 10 - March 27 - Students make course requests in Aspen Student Portal
- March 27 - Course requests must be finalized and posted in Aspen Student Portal.
- April 3 - Parent/guardian must approve Student Course Requests in Aspen Family Portal. Instructions for parental approval will be sent after March 27th.
If you have questions about:
- a particular course or the course selection process in a particular department - contact your student's current teacher in that department or that Department Coordinator (contact info found in the Program of Studies).
- planning a student's academic program - contact the student's guidance counselor.

To view teachers' course recommendations:
In the Aspen Student Portal:
- choose My Info top tab
- choose Requests side tab
- At the top of the page, click “Exit Entry Mode”
- recommendations are shown under “Course Request Adjustments.”
In the Aspen Family Portal:
- choose Family top tab
- select a student
- choose schedule side tab and then Requests sub-side-tab.
- recommendations are shown under “Course Request Adjustments” at the bottom.
Parents/guardians, please be sure to carefully review teachers’ course recommendations and additional course selections with your student. Your approval in the Aspen Family Portal will indicate that you approve both the recommendations and additional selections made online. Instructions for parental approval were sent via email on March 28th. Instructions with screenshots at this link.
If you wish to override a teacher’s course recommendation, you must speak to the teacher who will explain the override process for that department.
Next year’s schedules will be finalized and made available in the Aspen Student and Family Portals in August. You will get an email from the curriculum director at that time notifying you that they are available.
Schedules for new students and incoming 9th Graders will be emailed in August. New students and 9th Graders will get their Aspen accounts in September.
