GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES
Anyone in the building can refer a student for mediation by calling the coordinator, Lori Hodin at ext. 4312. Parents can initiate the process in the same way. As mediation is always voluntary, the coordinator will speak with the parties and explain the mediation process. If all parties agree, a mediation will be scheduled most often during school hours.
Student Mediators must consult with their teachers prior to participating in mediation. Although we aim to never take a student mediator out of class without the permission of the teacher, this might happen in an emergency situation. In this case, the co-ordinator will notify teachers after the process has taken place.
Students involved in disputes who choose to go to mediation are not obligated to tell their teachers the reason they have missed class as confidentiality is one of the most important principles of the Mediation Program.
