Runners win races.  Volunteers win the day!  Students in grades 9-12 from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School are invited to volunteer with fellow fans of WGBH TV and Radio during WGBH’s Fourth Annual 5K: Run for Public Media. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to give back to their community and support WGBH!

5K Description:

WGBH’s Fourth Annual 5K: Run for Public Media has the adult course beginning at 9am and travels through the DCR Artesani Park in Brighton, so runners can take in the sights around the Charles River during their run. We are also hosting a one-mile Kids’ Fun Run, which begins at 10am, after the adult 5K concludes and follows the first mile of the race. Our kids race is open to children from 2 to 10 years old.

Volunteer Description:

Now it’s time to hit the starting line! You can register for a variety of volunteer roles. These roles encompass a wide array of skills and interests. These roles range from registering athletes and distributing information, to providing course side refreshments at water and food stations.

Please encourage students to review the volunteer position descriptions listed below and email Volunteer Manager Jaime Reese at jaime_reese@wgbh.org if they’d like to help. Please make sure they include the following information in their email response:

–       Their full name

–       Email address (for email reminder purposes only)

–       Preferred volunteer positions (top 3 in order of preference)

All volunteers should arrive for their shifts at DCR Artesani Park, 1255 Soldiers Field Rd., Brighton, MA 02135.

Volunteer Position Descriptions and Shift Times:

Food Station Host (Shift: 8:30am-12pm)

Hand out snacks to runners as they finish the race; congratulate runners.

Pep Squad/Course Assistant (Shift: 8am-12pm)

Keep up high energy to encourage runners along the course and cheer.

Water Station (Shift: 8am-11am)

Hand out water at each mile marker on the course.

Without volunteers, a 5K race would be logistically impossible to produce.  We hope you’ll be able to volunteer (or run) for this good cause. Running isn’t for everyone, but volunteering is.

Get ready for a good race!

Sarah
