If you have not already done so, you must turn in your “Lean on me” assignment to your folder in Drive: both the Garageband file, and an mp3 of your Garageband file.

Thursday, October 26, 2017

Today is a “Catch Up Day”.  Check iPass, and if there is anything you are missing check in with me.

For your “Lean on me” project, you need melody, bass line and harmony.  You need to turn in both your Garageband file, and an mp3 file of your project (share menu –> export to disk –> mp3).  Make sure your name and “Lean on me” are in the file name.

Tuesday, October 24, 2017

The listening quiz for major/minor scales is today.  Take a few minutes to practice!  Remember that the first few notes of the scale are the key if you are struggling, and you can click on the icon to hear the scale (or the first several notes) as many times as you need to.  If the scale begins whole step/whole step (like do-re-mi), it is a major scale.  If the scale begins whole step/half step, then it is a minor scale.  (Nearly all kinds of scales are built of combinations of whole steps and half steps.)

We are moving towards wrapping up this first part (“Lean on me”) of Unit 2.  Your Garageband project for “Lean on me” should have at least the melody, harmony and bass line of this first part of the song that we’ve worked on.  (Optionally, you could also do the chorus, or add a drum part, etc.)  Detailed directions are at: Lean on me project (see me for the password)

Monday, October 23, 2017

The listening quiz for major/minor scales will be Tuesday.  If you need extra practice you can use the link below.  If you need help, ask me!

If you are totally solid on the scales, let me know and then go on the chords practice:

Next steps on Lean on me:

  • Add a bass line (can be same as melody, down an octave or two)
  • Add the harmony (walking the chords up and down with the RH thumb playing the melody)

Monday, October 16, 2017

Today is our Music/Computer Hardware quiz.  It is 10 multiple choice questions.

Mid-quarter check-ins: Take a moment to check iPass.  Grades are updated.  If anything says “Turn in for credit” that means you can finish and turn it in to your folder in Drive for credit.  When you do so, let me know.

Listening practice:

Next: we will start learning how to input music, using the song “Lean on me”.  Open up Garageband, plug in your keyboard.  Watch first 5 min 30 sec: Lean on me video
