Dear LS Students, Parents & Guardians:

The purpose of this email is to inform you about upcoming MCAS testing and the resulting changes to our schedule on MCAS testing days.

Impact on the schedule:

Classes will begin at 10:31 on May 3, 6, 10 and 13.

MCAS testing will take place from 8:25 - 10:28 on those days.

Block 1 & 3 classes will be cancelled on May 3 and 10.

Block 2 & 4 classes will be cancelled on May 6 and 13.

Some AP classes will be meeting during those mornings. Details will be shared with students in those classes by their teachers.

The MCAS weeks’ schedules, including bus information for those days, can be found on our website at https://www.lsrhs.net/school_calendar.

9th and 12th grade students will not be taking MCAS tests.

** Please read on if you are (or your child is) in 10th or 11th grade. **

To earn a high school diploma all students must meet the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s MCAS requirement (www.doe.mass.edu/mcas/graduation.html).

State Education Commissioner Jeffrey Riley has proposed to exempt this year’s 11th graders from taking MCAS tests. The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education will vote on his proposal on April 20th. Until we know the outcome of that vote, we will make plans to administer MCAS to both 10th and 11th grade students in the first two weeks of May.

Here is the testing schedule if only 10th graders will be taking MCAS.

Room assignments will be posted in House Offices and outside the Main Office one week prior to testing. Students should bring pencils, pens or highlighters for use on provided scratch paper each day for ELA and Math.

The online testing platform (TestNav) provides an onscreen calculator for the appropriate tests and sessions. Students may, however, use their own handheld calculator.

If you have questions, please call Tracey Lyon at x2342 or email tracey_lyon@lsrhs.net.
