Please save Texas Instruments graphing calculator proofs of purchase for us. Thanks!

ALGEBRA II, TRIG PRE CALC, CALCULUS, STATISTICS

These classes will require the use of a graphing calculator for classwork, homework and tests. A good choice is the Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus. The TI-84 Plus will be used for all classroom demonstrations. The TI-83 or TI-83 Plus (older models) are also acceptable.

Another good choice is the newest and most advanced TI graphing calculator, the TI-Nspire. A student interested in the substantial additional functionality of the TI-Nspire should know that the TI-Nspire (not to be confused with the TI-Nspire CAS) is allowed on standardized tests, including Advanced Placement Calculus and Statistics exams. A TI-84 Plus keypad is available for the TI-Nspire. Teachers may require that students use the TI-84 Plus keypad for regular coursework or tests. Similarly, students should be aware that teachers may not allow the use of other calculators that can do symbolic manipulation on tests or coursework.

The math department also has a limited number of graphing calculators available for loan. Please contact your housemaster if you are not able to purchase a graphing calculator.

GEOMETRY ACCELERATED ADVANCED

Accelerated Advanced Geometry students need a scientific calculator that does NOT have any of the following:

"solver" capability
graphing capability
math type (e.g. when you type in the square root of 8 and hit enter, calculators approved for intenisve geometry will give you only the decimal approximation)

We recommend a calculator that DO have the following:

2 lines of display
Ability to view and edit entries
Trigonometry, logarithms, reciprocals, factorials, universal powers and roots.
Fractions

A good choice is the Texas Instruments TI-30X IIS.

If you are considering another calculator for your math course, and are unsure, wait until the first day of classes and ask your teacher!

ALL OTHER GEOMETRY AND ALGEBRA I

Geometry and Algebra I classes require the use of a scientific calculator. We recommend a calculator with the following capabilities:

2 lines of display
Ability to view and edit entries
Trigonometry, logarithms, reciprocals, factorials, universal powers and roots.
Fractions

Good choices are the Texas Instruments TI-30X IIS or TI-30XS MultiView.

EARTH SCIENCE, CHEMISTRY

In the Science Department, Earth Science, Biology and Chemistry classes do not permit the use of graphing calculators. Scientific calculators (non-graphing) are needed for classes, homework, and tests.
