Dear LS Families,
Welcome back from summer break!
This morning I greeted all returning and new staff in preparation for the start of a new school year! Twelve-month staff including buildings and grounds and administrative offices worked through the summer to update the transfer of student records, clean and complete maintenance of the building and grounds, and receive new enrollments.
Several improvements to school safety are ready for implementation over the next few weeks. These include key card access for students and electronic buzz in entry at the front entrance. This information was sent directly to you from each House Associate Principal. New security cameras for the student and staff parking lot will be installed in September. ALICE training will take place closer to the start of school than in the past.
A traffic study will be completed near the start of school to help us determine the feasibility of changing school start time.
Staff is working actively on various initiatives to support our ongoing endeavors regarding inclusion, racial climate, safety and diversity that will be introduced this fall. All staff were given a copy of the book, Why Are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria to read over the summer. We are excited to receive the author, Beverly Daniel Tatum at our first faculty meeting Wednesday, August 29. School offices will be closed by 12:45 PM to enable all staff to attend.
LS will begin preparing immediately for the decennial New England Association of School Accreditation process this fall. You will receive more information on this subject later this fall.
Each year we choose one of our core values to focus on for deeper reflection. This year we will devote our attention to Fostering Caring and Cooperative Relationships. We are excited for this opportunity to reflect on the many ways we support one another, student and staff alike, as a learning community.
We look forward to seeing all of our 9th graders tomorrow and all students on Wednesday!
