Dear LS Students and Families,

Here are some words of acknowledgement (in no particular order) of November happenings before we head off for Thanksgiving break.

Thank you to 20 staff and 60 11th and 12th grade student volunteers who trained and were trained in October to lead and facilitate the first of two lengthy and substantial diversity workshops for over 400 9th graders!

Thank you to all of our coaches and hard working athletes for supporting our teams to another successful season and post-season play.  Thank you especially to our teams who have played and are playing still one more game through our early winter – brrrr!

Thank you to Carly Evans, Michael Bunting,Tom Grandprey and all our student performers and tech support for the utterly charming Once Upon a Mattress!

Congratulations to all of our 12th grade students who completed a first round of college EAs and EDs!  Thank you to our teachers who wrote hundreds of student recommendations among them.

Congratulations to a full bus load of students who road to NYC last weekend to attend the Historically Black College and Universities Fair and came back with 9 college acceptances among them!  Thank you to Shelly Hinds who organized the trip.

Thank you Shawn Miller and Chuck Despotopulos for your special home grown fishes and custom built tank that now surely make us smile every time we pass them by.  It is already hard to imagine that they were never here.

Finally, the last one for Tom Danko for the book of poems he left me before he retired from LS.

Enjoy your breaks everyone!

The Poplar

Wind shakes the big poplar, quicksilvering
the whole tree in a single sweep.
What bright scale fell and left this needle quivering?
What loaded balances have come to grief?
