Breast Cancer Event Against the tide

Must sign up by April 30, Against the Tide - Breast Cancer Event June 20 & 27
Posted on 11/13/2025

My name is Charles McGinn, and I'm a volunteer with Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition. I'm reaching out to ask if you could kindly share this opportunity with your students so that they can sign up to support Against the Tide this summer.

This is an invaluable opportunity for students to do community service and be leaders among their peers. There's a good chance that your students haven't yet heard about this event and I want to provide advance notice of this meaningful community service opportunity

Please share the following information with your students and any staff you think may be interested:

Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition will be hosting Against the Tide on June 20th at Hopkinton State Park in Hopkinton and on June 27th at Nickerson State Park in Brewster. Students can sign up to help out at either or both events. MBCC is also looking for volunteers to help with event set up the day before each event.

All students will receive a signed letter from MBCC acknowledging their volunteer participation following the event.

Available Volunteer Roles (Shifts range from 6AM to 1PM)
  • Registration
  • Event Greeters
  • Vendor Support
  • Swim Guide
  • Run Guide
  • Walk Guide
  • Cheerleader
All students will be expected to contribute to the Set-Up and Tear-Down of the event.

Any interested student should reach out to me, Charles McGinn ([email protected]) as well as Cheryl Osimo, MBCC's Executive Director, ([email protected]) for more information and to sign up. Subject line should include "Community Service Interest." Students should share their school name and phone number. To ensure the best fit for each student, we ask that interested volunteers meet with Cheryl on Zoom in advance. During this brief meeting, Cheryl will discuss the different support options and together with the student determine the role that best matches their interests and skills.

The last date to sign up for volunteering is April 31st. All students under 18 must share a note from their parent/guardian providing permission to volunteer with MBCC. MBCC is also recruiting parents to volunteer; and parents should please send an email for more information.

I have attached MBCC's Against the Tide poster, and you can visit mbcc.org/swim for additional information.
