French at LS

The French program at Lincoln Sudbury is rich and exciting, and is a great launching pad for those who are interested in pursuing this language in college and beyond! The classes teach not only the language, but also culture using movies, music, literature and even cooking as a part of the learning process. There are two possible paths for French study. Level 1 courses are intensive and are offered for motivated students with strong study skills. Level 2 courses are less demanding, while providing a solid French curriculum with more support. Beyond the classroom, students may participate in the French Club, the annual French Movie Night, and the Exchange Program. The French Exchange Program at LS provides students with an opportunity to apply their skills in an authentic setting at our French partner school in Lyon. Students enrolled in the French 3 or above are eligible to participate in this exchange. French students may also participate in the annual Declamation Contest, an oratory competition in which students learn and perform a written piece in the language they are studying.

We are happy to offer our students a French exchange program with Notre Dame de Bellegarde, our partner school located just outside of Lyon. Participating LS students travel to France for approximately 2 weeks over February break. Each LS student is hosted by a French student and gets to experience life at a French high school and well as French family life. In April, the same French students who hosted us arrive at LS and stay with their exchange partners for approximately 2 weeks. In addition to spending time with their American host families and in classes at LS, they also enjoy field trips organized by their teachers. We will run our biennial exchange exchange program in Feb/April of 2019, 2021 & 2023.

Our exchange program is organized through Prometour a European school exchange company with more than 25 years of experience in the field.
