Knowing Why

I would like to live outside with you--
to measure each dew drop's speckled hue
later, to count the stars as friends
and see dawn and dusk as signs
and not as ends
I would like to love outside with you
to lie down in a field God deftly drew
steal an hour away from shame
and grant that flesh and spirit
are both the same
Things fall together like
a mesh of shuffled sands;
truths hopefully appear--
we dance in moonlight, laugh toward the sky
content in knowing heaven understands
and in never knowing why
