project: images
files: images.html + many others!
Objective: You will create a portfolio page of many images you take or make. This is a much more open ended project than the assignments you have done so far, and you should use your creativity to make something amazing!
All the images you create should live in a single folder in your website. Call the folder "images". Each image you create will first be saved into this folder. Only after it is saved will you import it into your Dreamweaver document.
Your image portfolio should contain at a minimum:
- An image of yourself taken with a digital camera and optimized in iPhoto or Fireworks.
- A drawing made using Fireworks and saved as a PNG image.
- Art or buttons from a free website.
- A background image of any sort. This can be the background of your portfolio page or another page - provide a link if it is another page.
- Text (in a cool font) as an image.
- A gif image with a transparent background.
- Make at least one image a link.
- An image taken with a camera and changed significantly with fireworks or photoshop.
- An animated image made with Fireworks.
- A short movie clip taken with a dv camera or with the iSight camera in the computer.
- A roll-over image (when you mouse over the image it changes.)
Each image should have information about it - type of image, size of image in pixels, size of image in KB or MB.
The form your project takes is up to you. Be creative. You could have thumbnails, a separate page for each image, etc. Look at some photo websites for ideas. This is your opportunity to use what you have learned!
To do something extra on this project, incorporate one or more imagemaps into your project.
Assessment
Images is a major project. It will be one of only a few projects in the second half of the course. To get a good grade on the project you should:
Give thought to the sizes of pictures. Don't just shrink your pictures using the mouse - instead, change the "Image Size" in Photoshop, Fireworks or iPhoto. Not sure what I'm talking about? Ask.
Make a project with several pages and a common theme. No page should say "Untitled" at the top. No links should be broken.
Think about the user of your website. It should be clear to the user that this is a portfolio of images - tell a story about each one so that the user knows what you did and what you learned.
