Earthquakes recorded at Lincoln-Sudbury Lincoln-Sudbury is part of the Princeton Earth Physics Project, gathering seismic data and making it available over the internet. Earthquakes (173 as of September 2000) from as close as Westford and a far away as Antarctica have been recorded at L-S. The information is maintained in a database at Princeton and is accessible to anyone with an internet connection. L-S is one of 53 schools in the USA (5 in New England) that participate in this project. More about PEPP, and data recorded at L-S and other PEPP schools, can be found at the PEPP web site. The August 17, 1999 Turkey earthquake provided fine recordings from a number of facilities with PEPP seismographs. Click here if you would like to see four recordings. On September 12, 2007 a magnitude 8.4 earthquake occurred under Southern Sumatra, Indonesia at 11:10:26 UTC , 4.520S, 101.374E Later a mag 7.9 quake (Sept. 12 at 23:49:04 UTC and a mag 7.0 quake (Sept. 13 at 03:35:26 UTC) occurred in the same area. Click here to see the LS recording of the three earthquakes. This recording clearly shows how much more ground motion there is in a magnitude 8.4 earthquake than in a magnitude 7.0 quake.
