The core curriculum within the science department is earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics. In an age of ever increasing emphasis on the sciences, a well- rounded background in these disciplines provides a foundation for more sophisticated thinking, and the knowledge base necessary to make educated personal and societal decisions. For these reasons, the department requires that all students successfully complete at least two years of scientific study, one in a physical science and one in a life science. Beyond this requirement, it is strongly recommended that all students continuing in science take at least one course in each of the four core disciplines. In the descriptions below, the "instructor" is the current instructor of the course being described.
