THE 17TH ANNUAL
LINCOLN-SUDBURY
ORATORY COMPETITION
Do You Have A Dream?
Have You Been To The Mountaintop?
Have You Ever Felt We Are Being Crucified Upon A Cross Of Gold?
Would You Suggest Malice Toward None And Charity For All?
Do You Regret You Have But One Life To Lose For Your Country?
Would You Insist On Being Given Liberty Or Death?
Do You Firmly Believe That History Will Absolve You?
Will You Promise To Fight No More Forever?
Are You Always Asking What You Can Do For Your Country?
Rather Than What Your Country Can Do For You?
If you are moved by the power of the spoken word, but today's
politicians are just not doing it for you, this could be your chance.
Just choose a famous speech by an historical figure of any time period
and from any country, memorize it, keep it to no more than 5 minutes in length--and let it rip. This competition is being sponsored by the History Department,
and the prize is worth $100.
So take us back to the age before television or teleprompters or speechwriters. Mesmerize us with the power of the spoken word. See your History teacher for details and suggestions. And if the thought of giving brilliant speech before an eager crowd makes
you nervous, just remember:
"THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO FEAR IS FEAR ITSELF..."
