Creating Music with Garageband
A self-directed unit
It is fun to make music. Plus, sometimes it is easier to make our own rather than worry about what we need to do to follow copyright and fair use guidelines when using someone else's music.
The goal of this assignment is to play around with Garageband enough so that when the time comes, and you need a little audio content, you can make a credible song without too much struggle.
Go to the following resources and watch at least the recommended videos. Then try making a song in Garageband (in the Applications folder).
http://www.apple.com/findouthow/music/garageband08.html -- and Click on the Magic Garageband link
http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourse.aspx?lpk2=504 -- and watch the Garageband interface video (if you haven't used Garageband before) and the three available videos about loops (the second section)
At the very least, you should create two songs (but you may be hooked and end up making several more!):
- One song should be created using Garageband's pre-recorded 'loops'
- One song should be created using Garageband's Magic Garageband option
Have fun with it. Feel free to find your own resources. Ask questions... of yourself, your classroom neighbors, and me.
