  Objective: You will be able to use Dreamweaver's Site Management tool to define and manage your website.
 

The Steps
... to defining a site with Dreamweaver.

Starting with this assignment you will be keeping two copies of your pages. You will have a local copy in your Sites folder and a copy of the files in that folder published to the L-S website.

  1. Look in your Sites folder. If there is a file called index.html please drag it to the trash.
  2. Open Dreamweaver.
  3. In Dreamweaver, go to Site -Manage Sites. Click New and select Site. Click on the Advanced Tab. Type in "YourName's Site".
  4. Click Local Info and on the folder icon next to Local root folder and navigate to your home Sites folder.
  5. Next click on Remote Info. Set the access to FTP. Type in www.lsrhs.net for FTP host. Where it says Host directory - type in /Users/WebPublishing/LastnameFirstinital (example: /Users/WebPublishing/BerryJ)
  6. For the login type in your server login name (all lower case). Type in your password.
  7. Click on the Test button. If you are successful you should see:
  8. To assign the homepage click on Site Map Layout and navigate to your default.html page within your Sites folder.

The Assignment

1. Follow all of the above instructions, and ask questions when needed, so that:

  • Dreamweaver successfully connects to the Web server when the test button is pressed.

2. Organize your Sites folder, so that:

  • The home page is titled "default.html"
  • Assignments.html includes links to all your other pages.
  • The Sites folder contains all the other assignments.
  • Each web page (assignment) has a link back to your Assignments page.

3. Create a new page using Dreamweaver called Log.html, so that:

  • Log.html is formatted with a Definition List to record work done, time spent, and answers to questions asked on days we fill out the log.
  • Log.html has an entry for the day it was created (Jim will explain what this entry should contain).
  • Log.html has a link back to assignments.html.
