My name is Joseph Miele. I am a new teacher at LS and work as a liaison in the Learning Center. For the past eleven years, I was an English teacher at a small alternative high school in Marlboro. While I loved teaching English at the school, I also enjoyed developing film study classes and several cooking classes. I have also worked in schools for autistic children, in group homes and secure facilities, and in hospitals. I also am a practicing attorney; although my first love remains teaching.

I became interested in special education because I was a learning disabled student at a time when there were few special education laws and fewer resources to help such students. After high school I worked for a few years as I strengthened my reading and writing skills and graduated summa cum laude from UMASS-Amherst, received master's degree from Syracuse University and a law degree from Temple Law School. My legal work included representing the City of Philadelphia as an Assistant City Solicitor, having a small private practice centering on mental health and child abuse cases, and last year I practiced part time appellate law for a very large Boston firm. Though I enjoyed practicing law, and toyed with the idea of practicing with a large law firm, I knew in my heart that I would eventually return to the classroom. I've never regretted the decision to return to my roots.

My interests include writing music, salt water fishing, film, gardening, going insane watching the Patriots, and most of all, spending time with my beautiful daughter AnnaLouise. I am a single dad living presently in the Concord area, after a fun few years in East Boston. I love working at LS already, and hope for many good years to come.
