  • ELIGIBILITY: Auditions are open to students in Grade 9 who are members of the school band orchestra or choir only. Students may audition for one group only, with the exception of Jazz Ensemble auditionees, who may also audition for Band, Orchestra, or Chorus. (Two auditions, two audition fees) If a percussionist wishes to audition on more than one instrument, each instrument must be designated, and a separate fee paid for each audition. Students must be members of their school music-performing group.
  • No photocopies of music are allowed at the audition, you must have the original.
  • The audition will be a "Blind Audition" find out more
  • Sight-Reading is a part of the Jr. Festival Auditions - All Instrumental Students will be asked to sight-read at the grade 2-3 level. Practice your sight reading skills by starting “easy” and building in difficulty. For example: Use old lesson books so you can nail all components, tone, articulation, style, accidentals, keys, and of course notes and rhythms. See Mr. G for additional material.
  • Scales should be an automatic top score for you, if you are fuzzy on any of them, use the scale mastery method. (say note names, say name/finger, play and think note names) then apply the jr. district pattern, articulation, and tempo.
  • Set up a time to play for Mr. G. to receive feedback or to go through a mock audition.
  • Remember- “Luck favors the prepared, Darling” – Edna Mode in The Incredibles.
(Probably adapted from “chance favors the prepared mind” Louis Pasteur)
