******************* Grants Awarded in 2007-08 Many thanks to SERF, L-S Friends of Music, and the Ramsey McCluskey Family Foundation for supporting the L-S Music Program by funding instrument and equipment purchases! The Sudbury Educational Resource Fund (SERF) has awarded the L-S Music Dept. with two grants in 2008. SERF Grant #1: A Portable Digital Piano and Amplifier for use by L-S groups for community performances and festival appearances. The Select Jazz Combo, Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, and Concert Choir have used this equipment in Spring 2008 performances. SERF Grant #2: A Guitar Synthesizer and Amplifier for use by students in songwriting, guitar, jazz, and concert band classes. Students will connect this device to a midi guitar to enter musical data into a computer program. They can call up a variety of sounds similar to a keyboard synthesizer, for example, it was used to perform a bassoon part for Concert Band at the May 12th 2008 Concert. In 2008 L-S Friends of Music donated funds for a midi guitar and left handed acoustic electric guitar for use by the Songwriting, Guitar, Jazz, and Concert Band classes. The Ramsey McCluskey Family Foundation funded guitar and bass instrument and equipment purchases for use by Songwriting, Guitar, Jazz, and Concert Band classes. *******************

"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything." ~Plato
