Instrumental Music Director: Thomas Grandprey

Mr. Grandprey has proudly taught instrumental music at L-S since 2004. His curricular responsibilities include; String Orchestra, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Symphonic Jazz Ensemble, Concert Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combos, and Chamber Groups. Previously he has taught music theory, jazz improvisation, a beginning guitar course, and a songwriting course.
Mr. G. has conducted the L-S Pit Orchestra for West Side Story, Bat Boy, Into The Woods, Pippin, and Kiss Me Kate. In previous positions he has conducted West Side Story (Twice!), Anything Goes, My Fair Lady, and Grease.
Previously, Mr. G. taught at David Prouty H.S. in Spencer, Massachusetts where he was awarded the iParenting teacher of the month, and at Mayo H.S. in Rochester, Minnesota where he was an active performer, clinician and judge for music festivals.
Mr. Grandprey holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Minnesota and a Masters of Music in Jazz Studies with and Emphasis in Pedagogy from the Boston Conservatory / Berklee College of Music Collaborative Jazz Masters Program.

Musical Background and Interests
As a tubaist and bassist, Mr. Grandprey has been involved in a wide variety of musical groups that stretch from classical to contemporary styles.
Mr. G. is an alumnus of the international performing group Up With People where he toured and performed a professional quality show and community service in 93 communities in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
In Rochester MN he was an active performer in the blues, rock, funk, jazz, and brass quintet genres and performed with Incognito, a "Tower of Power" style band formed well before the international group of the same name.
He has released three independent label jazz CD's;
Jazz Packed with the Jazz Missionaries which contains a mix of jazz standards including A Night in Tunisia, Sugar, Nica's Dream, and My Foolish Heart.
Close Enough with Emmy winning composer John Close. All of the tracks for the Close Enough CD were spontaneously improvised in the studio and are a mix of jazz, rock, and funk songs.

An active freelance and performing musician in the greater Boston area, he has performed with the Boston City Band, Tony Barre Band, Phil Donetelli Blues Band, Rumblestrip, and is currently the bassist with the Too Tall Blues Band, Jay Tyer Group, Quartet D'Jour, Jean Mancini Gough and Friends, and the Worcester Jazz Orchestra.
The Worcester Jazz Orchestra is an 18 piece big band that presents material from the classic big bands of the 1930's and 1940's to today's contemporary ensembles. Music from the orchestras of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Thad Jones, Oliver Nelson, and Mel Lewis are staples at performances. The group is comprised of freelance musicians and educators, including faculty from the Berklee College of Music.
