Students,
Welcome! There are many ways to get involved in the choral program here at L-S. We offer private voice lessons, musical theater productions, and more than five choral ensembles.
Chorus is open to all students; there is no audition. You don't have to have a good voice or know how to read music--these are things you will learn in chorus. Joining chorus is a great way to meet new people and make lasting friendships; you will also develop a strong singing voice and build your musical skills. If you like to sing and enjoy making music with others, chorus is for you!
Plans for the '08-'09 year include the first annual Renaissance Madrigal Dinner (January 2009) and an Easter weekend trip to NYC, where the Mixed Chorus will perform at legendary Carnegie Hall! Over the course of the year you will make great friends, sing challenging and inspiring music, and become a better musician. Along the way you will learn about the pride of accomplishment, leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and school spirit. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about course selection or the choral program at L-S.
Parents,
Entering high school is a big step forward in a child’s educational journey. Often students assume that, with the heavier workload of the high school curriculum, they will not have time to participate in a musical ensemble.
In fact, it is often the continuation of musical studies enables success during the transition into high school. A choral ensemble provides an established group of supportive friends that gives new students an instant sense of 'belonging'. Additionally, ongoing research continues to offer dramatic statistics concerning young people who participate in their school music programs; when music is included in a student’s daily learning, their reading, writing, and math scores improve.
Personally, I have seen otherwise underachieving students blossom before my eyes as they develop the confidence and pride that is gained from participating in a performing group. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about course selection or the choral program at L-S.
