Continuity Movie Project
The Art & Craft of Video Production
Teacher: Ken Kimura

Objective
To produce a video that presents an “action” or “activity”:
  • as one continuous and coherent scene
  • in a single time frame (no jumps in time)
  • with no jumps in location
  • with no dialog sound
  • with a variety of effective shots (minimum of 14)
  • with no violence or inappropriate material.
  • with match cuts and cuts on action
Shot Requirements
Your video MUST contain at least the following shots:
  • Cuts on action
  • 1 establishing shot
  • 3 close ups
  • 1 POV
  • 1 extreme angle (high or low)
  • 3 medium shots
NOTE: All shots except for pans and tilts must be steady “static
shots” Any pans or tilts are to be very SMOOTH.
Roles
Everyone is to should participate in the following roles:
  • Storyboard Artist
  • Actor
  • Director
  • Producer
  • Editor
  • Director of Photography
AND everyone is required to operate the camera (DP- Director of
Photography) at some point during the shoot.
Length
You should have up to 6 minutes of footage that you will edit down to 1 to 3 minutes.
Grading
You will be given 2 grades for this project:
  1. A grade for your individual contribution and cooperation
  2. (see Production Roles worksheet)
  3. A grade for your group project
    • Planning 33% (keep your storyboard)
    • Shooting 33%
    • Editing 33% (see Silent Movie Grading Rubric)
    • Genius 1%
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Movie is edited so that it starts and ends on black
  • Only 30 seconds of commercial music may be used
  • Music credits include both composer credit and performer credit - check with ASCAP & BMI
  • Credits include full names of group members
  • Music ends appropriately or fades out
