Archiving Your Project
The Art & Craft of Video Production

Determine a Filename
  • Think of a filename that is similar to the title of your movie. This will be used when saving all your archive files and will be referred to as your "FILENAME."
  • (If you had set up your project properly at the beginning this can be skipped)
  • Your FILENAME should use underscores instead of spaces
  • It should be less than 15 characters long
  • Do not use any punctuation, spaces or special characters
  • Example filename: The_Dawn_of_LS
Create a Quicktime DV File

  1. Open your iMovie project
  2. Go to the iMovie “File” menu and select “Export...”
  3. At the top of the window, select “Quicktime”
  4. Where it says “Compress movie for:” select “Full Quality”
  5. Click the “Share” button at the bottom of the window.
  6. Name your file (FILENAME).dv (For example: The_Dawn_of_LS.dv)
Create a Still Frame Image jpeg
  1. In your iMovie movie, set your playhead to a part of your movie that you want to use as your still frame preview.
  2. From the "File" menu (in iMovie), select "Save Frame As..."
  3. Name your file (FILENAME).jpeg (For example: The_Dawn_of_LS.jpeg)
  4. Save this JPEG in your block hard drive.
Create an Information Document
  1. Open the word processor, AppleWorks

  2. Create a new document and include the following information (see example at the end of this document)
    • Block number
    • Year and Semester
    • Title of your project
    • The exact name of your project file
    • A short description of your project
    • Full names of the members of your group
    • See Example on page 2

  3. Save this file as “project_info.cwk” in your block hard drive.

Create an Archive Folder
  1. Using the Dock, Select "Finder" - or click on the desktop
  2. Double click on your block hard drive
  3. Go to the "File" menu at the top of the screen and select "New Folder"
  4. Name the Folder "P(project no.)_(FILENAME)" - To do this, click on the title of the folder and hit the "enter" key. (For example: P1_The_Dawn_of_LS)
checkbox Create a Quicktime Web Movie
  1. Go to the iMovie “File” menu and select “Export...”
  2. At the top of the window, select “Quicktime”
  3. Where it says “Compress movie for:” select “Web Streaming"
  4. Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the window.
  5. Name your file (FILENAME).mov (For example: The_Dawn_of_LS.mov)
  6. Save this file in your block hard drive.
Drag the Files You Created Into Your Archive Folder
  1. (FILENAME).dv file
  2. (FILENAME).mov
  3. (FILENAME).jpeg
  4. project_info.cwk
NOTE: DO NOT MOVE YOUR iMOVIE PROJECT –DO NOT PUT IT INTO THE FOLDER

If you don’t see the dv file, the mov file, the jpeg file and the project_info file inside your block hard drive, you did not save it in the correct place. See me for assistance.

Title: “The Dawn of LS”

This movie is about a student who steps into the building for the first time. As soon as they walk in they encounter a number of people who look at him strangely. Finally when he walks into the bathroom and looks into the mirror he realizes that he... etc.
