Equipment & Video Lab Use Guidelines:
The Art and Craft of Video Production
Teacher: Ken Kimura
email: ken_kimura at lsrhs dot net

Before Leaving Class to Shoot
  • Leave your DV cassette case in the classroom
  • Don't waste all your planning; bring your shot list/storyboard with you
  • Again, test any audio equipment BEFORE you leave the classroom —check to make sure your equipment is working properly and is not damaged

While Shooting

  • AGAIN, wear the camera neck strap

  • Be efficient with your time using the wheelchair.
    • The wheelchair can only be used to capture tracking shots - it cannot be used as a prop in your movie.
    • Return it to the classroom as soon as possible
    • Never leave the wheelchair unattended
    • Do not let people outside of class use the wheelchair
    • Only one person can transport the wheelchair in an elevator - and only with a pass written by your teacher.

    • NOTE: Misuse of the wheelchair will result in an official behavior report

  • Remember to shoot Pre-Roll and Post-Roll

When You’re Finished

  • Return your camera to the camera locker, so that the back of the camera can be clearly seen

    • Put the lens cap on
    • Remove your DV tape and put it away
    • Turn the camera off
    • Put the battery on charge

  • Put your shot list/storyboard in your group folder

  • A minimum of two students per group should help put equipment away. It should not always be the same two students, and NO ONE SHOULD LEAVE EARLY UNTIL ALL EQUIPMENT IS PUT AWAY.

  • Coil your audio cable into a single loop and use the velcro tie

  • Wrap the headphone wire around the earpieces and tuck the end through

  • Clean up your workstation area
    • Push in 2 chairs & return extra chairs (pushed in) to the center tables
    • Put away any important papers
    • Properly dispose any unneeded papers, trash, etc.
    • REMEMBER: Do not touch the monitor screen
Important (again)

If your teacher cannot be found when you are finished using your camera and microphone, return them to the Communications Dept. (Chuck D.) or find a Media Arts teacher (Ken Kimura or Paul Sarapas) - Do not just leave them in the classroom.
