Objective
This class is designed to give you an introduction to the The Art & Craft of Video Production and video. You will learn to analyze, understand and critically read movies; to develop an understanding of the processes and roles involved in film / video production. You will have an opportunity to apply these concepts to various “hands-on” activities, exploring the various roles of a video production team, and ultimately creating your own video work.

Through this course, you will learn how to develop your ideas and concepts to most effectively present them as video projects. You will also gain experience with the technical aspects of shooting video and editing picture and sound.

By the end of the semester you will put your knowledge and production skills to use by creating amazing and memorable Final Video Projects!

NOTE: All movies made in this class may be automatically selected to be shown in various school events.

Attendance, Participation & Behavior
Because of the group nature of this class, it is very important that you are present for every class meeting and that you come to class on time. I expect that everyone actively participate in group efforts as well as provide feedback to your classmates' work. I expect everyone to behave in a way that is conducive to being productive, and to treat each other, the teacher, the equipment and property with respect. Your conduct, participation and attendance will be weighed as part of your final grade.

If you miss a class, you must make up the work on your own time outside of class, borrow notes from a classmate or view a missed video. It is the students responsibility to make up missed work. Quizzes and assignments missed due to cuts (unexcused absences) cannot be made up.

Leaving the Classroom I am responsible for you during our class time. When a housemaster or anyone comes to talk to you, I don't find it acceptable to have to tell them that I don’t know where you are. If you need to go to the rest room, nurse, etc, please let me know before you leave.

IMPORTANT NOTES: Because of the very active nature of this class, if you come to class after attendance has been taken it is your responsibility to let me know that you are present - otherwise a CUT may be issued.

TARDINESS It is very important that you come to class on time, especially since most of the new and important information is covered at the beginning of class. Every three unexcused tardies will result in a CUT.
Equipment Sign out
You will have the opportunity to sign out equipment during class, and after school. You will be required to sign a release form prior to using the equipment.

Projects/Assignments
Projects are generally done in groups.
- Shot Framing Project
- Continuity Project
- Short Fictional Narrative
- Experimental/Montage Video

NOTE: Projects that are too violent, sexual, or demeaning towards individuals or groups will not be allowed. Also, obscenity and profanity will not be allowed. Final decisions and project approval/rejection will be made by the teacher.

All students will sign a written agreement outlining the school's "Acceptable Use Policy."

Grading
Your final grade will be based on a combination of your quiz grades, project grades, your class participation and attendance. Excessive tardiness and cuts will lower your grade and/or cause you to lose credit. Quizzes will be given throughout the semester.

Other Requirements
Because there is no textbook for this class, you will be expected to take notes - I recommend you keep a class folder for handouts which are periodically provided.

You can also work on your own time should you find that you don’t have enough time to finish a project in class or if your group is doing something elaborate and advanced.
