Making Preparations in the Finder
  1. Go to the Flash Work Files folder in my public folder. Drag the folder named myname onto your deskop. This folder will be your Web Portfolio Project.
  2. Change the name fo the folder to your lastname, first initial - for example: bauerj
  3. Change the names of the HTM files to reflect your last name, first initial. For example buaerj.htm
  4. Check to make sure the names of all of your FLA files are correct.
    • The “A” for Assignments and the “P” for Project should be uppercase, but all other letters need to be lower case.
  5. Update all your SWF files. To do this, delete the old SWF file (apple/delete), open the FLA file and test your movie. This will create a brand new SWF file.

Making “Preview” Thumbnails
  1. Open your Flash file and go to a part of your movie that you want to become part of the preview thumbnail.
  2. Turn off any guide layers, lock any Mask related layers, and make sure that nothing is selected - making sure sure there are no "blue boxes" visible.
  3. Take a screen capture of the area to become a thumbnail - try to make it square. To do a screen capture:
    • Hold down the apple/shift/4. Your cursor will be a cross hair.
    • Click and drag an area to capture.
    • Your screen capture will be a file on your desktop called “Picture.”
  4. Go to your “Go” menu and open your Applications folder. Locate the folder named “Adobe Photoshop.” Open this folder and drag the Photoshop icon onto your dock.
  5. Drag the Picture file onto the Photoshop icon in your dock. This will open the file in Photoshop, an image editing program.
  6. SHRINK THE IMAGE. Go to the Image Menu > Image Size...,
Make sure there is a checkmark next to Constrain Proportions and Resample.
Set the SMALLER of the two dimensions to 80 pixels.
  7. CROP THE IMAGE.
Go to the Image Menu >Canvas Size..., Set the LARGER number to 80 pixels
  8. Save the image as a JPEG.
Go to File Menu > Save for Web & Devices... Use the same name as the project or assignment but at "th" after the number and add the suffix “.JPEG” For example: A9th_bauerj.jpeg
Save it into the thumbnails folder.
