- Clean up your image using brightness/contrast
- Image menu > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast...
- Increase brightness to whiten the paper
- Increase the contrast to darkent the lines
- Make sure your image is oriented correctly
Image menu > Rotate Canvas
- Make sure your image will fit in a 700 pixel square area.
- Image menu > Image Size...
- make sure “Constrain Proportions” is checked
- determine which is larger, hieght or width
- type 700 pixels for the larger number
- click OK
- Change to RGB color mode
Image menu > Mode > RGB Color
Creating Your Transparent Outline Layer
- Go to your Channels palette
- Duplicate the Red Channel - drag it onto the post-it note icon
- Invert the channel
Image menu > Adjustments > Invert
- In your channels palette click on the word RGB (turns on all the color channels)
- Go to your layers palette
- Create a new layer and bring it to the top.
- Name it “Outline”
- Turn off all other layers.
- Load Selection
Select menu > Load Selection > choose Red Copy for channel
- Set your foreground color to black
type the letter D
- Fill the seletion with the foreground color
option / delete
- Deselect
