In this course students will learn to use the computer and the software application, Adobe Photoshop, to create unique digital images. Students will explore both the technical aspects of image manipulation, as well as the artistic aspects of creating images. They will become familiar with Photoshop through watching demonstrations, and completing structured assignments as well as open ended assignments and projects.

Adobe Photoshop is a professional image editing, graphics application. It is considered to be an industry standard for digital photography, graphic design, printing, web design, video and film, special effects, 3D computer graphics, photo retouching, and more.

Some of the topics that will be covered in this class are:

  • basic Photoshop use
  • digital painting
  • using digital photos and scanning images
  • creating montages and collages
  • creating web ready graphics

Students will also be exposed to other exciting developments in computer graphics including, 3D graphics, character animation, digital video and motion graphics.

About the Teacher: Ken Kimura
I have been on staff at LS since 1998. I am a professional graphic designer specializing in new media. My undergraduate degree is in Music Composition / Film Scoring, from Berklee College; and I am finishing a Masters program in Visual Media Arts: New Media, at Emerson College.
