Each of the eight units in media literacy are designed to help students construct their own knowledge through the eight spokes of the constructivist octagon.Through collaboration, students build upon each other's skills and knowledge in the creation of projects.Guided conversations, usually at the end of films screenings, or when students are sharing their projects, help us to reflect on our learning and place it within the context of media literacy. Likewise, individual reflection, through essays, poems, raps, and artwork, helps the students find context and express complex and powerful ideas. The intent of the entire course is expressed by the overarching goal, mastery objectives, and the overlap of mutiple intelligences. The students accomplish a large part of this by actively manipulating electronic media or by creating artwork. As you can see, there are many overlaps between the eight spokes of constructivism. Below ( to the left) are pop-up links to the eight units and their lesson plans. Note that as I am constantly modifying and changing lessons that some are more comprehensive than others. |
