Can you think of any way in which violence in sports, including boxing, wrestling, hunting, or bullfights, serves a useful purpose to society? If so, how? If not, why not?

Violence definitely plays a big part in sports today like boxing, wrestling, hunting and others. It does not always appeal to everyone, but it serves as sort of an escape for people from everyday life. Often people who do not experience violence watch violent films. On the other hand, people will watch football games and other sporting events for the excitement. I would not say that violence serves as a useful purpose in society. Even though violence does not really have an 'important' use in society, it really allows for the production of entertainment films and others types of media.

Violence is another human weakness. All creatures on earth are built
to survive. The Elephants can defend themselves with their size.
Lions defend themselves with their fierocity. Humans with their
cunning. However, humans have also survived because of their ability
to fight. They defended themselves in pre-historic times, and they
defended themselves in the hunting gathering days with violence and
the ability to hurt and kill.

In today's society, humans no longer need to be violent to survive.
There are wars, but the human species is safe from all other creatures. They eat animals, but they can kill them without hunting. Some of the human experience is gone as well. That is why we need
violence. It is the missing link between us and our predecessors.

Kids no longer go hunting with their fathers, so they play Grand Theft
Auto. They no longer need to fight to prove their ability to lead.
They watch boxing and wrestling to fill the void. It is not a
requirement to go and fight in wars anymore, as it is all volunteers
now. So boys play football and hockey to fill the void. Violence is part of human nature, and they can live it through the media. There might be more killing rampages if not for the media's protrayal of violence.
