There are plenty of projects the Environmental Club can pursue at LS. However, you can still be environmentally-minded through doing other things. They include:
Riding a bike to school reduces greenhouse gas emissions and gives you exercise.
Dry clothes on a clothesline - the UV rays kill germs, you save money, and energy isn't used.
Use hand-powered kitchen appliances instead of electric-powered appliances. These inlcude can openers, coffe grinders, and juicers.
Put a lid on the pot when you boil water -- if every U.S. household did this once, we'd save about $2,212,175.
If you are away from your computer, turn off the monitor yourself instead of waiting for the screensaver to come on.
When using a computer, lower the brightness setting. You can still see the monitor, and it saves energy.
Have a vegetable garden. IT saves you money, and your carbon footprint is reduced because the food hasn't traveled hundreds of miles.
Wash clothes in warm water (say 104 degrees) instead of hot water (around 140 degrees) and you will have half of the energy used in hot water.
Pay bills online instead of having them mailed to you. If just two percent of American households switched from paper to electronic bills, over 180,000 trees would be saved and it would be the equivalent of taking 32,572 cars off the road.
