Cafeteria Waste

The Problem

Our cafeteria at LS uses many plastic and styrofoam containers for food -- all not biodegradable. This leads to a buildup of waste that the Earth would be better without.

Naturally, one would ask for the cafeteria to use more environmentally-friendly products in its packaging. There's a catch. After looking at the prices of biodegradable plates/cups/containers, the club was silghtly discouraged: Most environmentally-minded products were at least three times the price of non-biodegradable containers.

Possible Solutions

Even after this rather depressing news, there still remains an initiative for reducing the cafeteria's waste.

The Environmental Club may implement a composting pile, or we may look at different companies to supply said biodegradable products -- thus lowering the cost. We are sure there is something we can do to reduce the waste that the LS cafeteria emits.
