How is Lincoln-Sudbury's computer network set up?
The LSRHS computer network has multiple servers that host user accounts. The server your account is hosted on will depend on what your role is at the school. There are different servers for teachers; administrators, Special Ed staff, and counselors; and for each of the student classes (graduating years). To learn more, visit the network information pages of the new staff technology orientation.

How do I change my network password?
Click on the Apple icon at the top left of the screen and scroll down to System Preferences. In the System Preferences box, click on the Accounts icon. Click the Change Password button. Enter the appropriate information. For more about this, visit here.

What are the Public Folder and Drop Box, and how do I use them?
The Public Folder in your account is a place where you can put documents that other network users will have access to. You might place a worksheet for one of your classes in your Public Folder. The Drop Box is a place where other network users can drop files into your account. No one but you has access to see what is in your Drop Box, but students can place files in there for you. For more, visit the Public Folder page of the new staff technology orientation or this handy PDF.

What software is available on the computers at Lincoln-Sudbury?
All of the computers at LSRHS have some software in common. Many of the computer labs in the building have additional software based on the needs of the department that those labs support. For a complete list of software installed and where you can find it, click here.

If I'm having a computer or network problem, what should I do and who should I talk to?
You're in the right place. Browse these Computer Technology @ LS pages. Specfically, you may want to try the support page of the new staff technology orientation or if you have a software question, click here to go to the software page.

What does the spinning, rainbow circle mean?
This is in the same family as the clock face icon or the hourglass icon you may be familar with from past computer experience. The computer is working on something, but probably not at the rate you want it to be. Often it means that traffic to and from the server that you're connected to is backed up. If you can wait, you may want to give it a few minutes. If you can Force Quit (Option-Command-Esc) applications you are not presently using, that may help. If it continues indefinitely, you may want to reboot the computer. Don't forget to save your work often!

How do I know where I saved my files?
When saving, click the down arrow next to the file name to browse your files and choose the best folder for the document you are saving. If you have already saved a file and can't find it, click the Spotlight icon (a magnifying glass) at the top right of your screen, and type in the file name. If you have the file open currently, you can go to the File menu and scroll down to Save As... When the Save As window opens, click the down arrow to the right of the file name and see where you've been putting your file(s).
